ASHESI D LAB: NFT EVENT

On the 4th of May 2022, Wednesday, Ashesi Design Lab in partnership with Ashesi Entrepreneurship Centre organized an NFT event where the invited David Boateng, an alumni of Ashesi as well as a rising NFT investor to share his story of success in the NFT space. The event, which was held at RB 115 commenced at 3pm. Many people started flocking in at the venue exactly at 3pm, excitement clearly showing on their faces as they had been waiting impatiently for the event.

After the attendees present settled on their seats, three students who were also familiar with the NFT space were invited on stage to pave way for David as they enlightened people on matters concerning NFTs. The three students whose names were Cornelius Apaalse, Elias Elikem and Alosius Akonteh all started by giving their experiences so far and challenges that they encountered. After answering questions from the audience, they gave advices to students who would want to venture into the NFT space such as exercising patience and not being in a hurry to trade without really understanding how the space works. They also talked about the opportunities available in the NFT space and said that twitter and discord were the apps to use if one wanted to be aware of the current affairs in the NFT space.

After they were done giving their final remarks, David Boateng, the chief guest stepped on stage to give a talk about NFTs. He, like the other three, told a story about how he first started. He said that having a lot interest in investing made him venture into spaces like cryptocurrency before he found his footing in the NFT space. He stated that he encountered a huge loss and was devastated by it. However, he said that, not giving up he kept on trying and each time learnt from his mistakes and did better. He said that experiences where people lose a lot of money make people say that the platforms a scam, while the truth is that they do not know understand the ins and outs of the space before investing.

He was also able to differentiate between primary and secondary markets and advised on getting into the primary markets when starting because they are cheaper. He also emphasized on the need to be on the whitelist of various NFT projects as it helps to fetch a lot of profit. He went on ahead to show videos that he did in order to get onto the white list of some of projects and emphasized the need for creativity and to give it your all when doing the videos.

He also acknowledged the risks that come along with NFTs such as huge losses but went on ahead to say that those loses get to shape and redefine one for future success. He also talked about web 3 and how there were so many opportunities in that particular field giving an example of a community called Meta Angels that has a lot of networking opportunities, job opportunities and that one can get a lot of career advise on any field. He promised to loan some of the attendees NFT wallets in order to get started, which earned a huge applause from the audience. He stated that application would be open to all those that attended and that qualified applicants would receive the wallets.

There was a brief question and answer session right after and students were allowed to ask questions concerning the NFT space and basically questions on his experience so far, which David welcomed warmly and gave detailed answers to each question.

For his final remarks, he described that NFT was a space filled with anxiety and that one should not give up easily despite the discouraging moments. Investing is such an emotional game. He went on ahead to erase the stereotype that the platform is a scam and said that the huge losses that can be experienced sell the idea that the platform is a scamming place. With that David Boateng concluded his speech.

Attendees were later allowed to have some snacks and drinks, as others went on to further interact with the guest, David Boateng to learn more from him. After the session, students were allowed to leave freely at 5pm which was when the event came to an end.
