When blessed with creativity, one must give back to their community. This is the opportunity the Rockefeller Foundation-Acumen Student Social Innovation Challenge presents to Ashesi University students. On the 2nd of October, 20 students signed up to take part in an info session explaining the contents of this grand affair. The session was led by Mr.Eugene Daniels, the operations lead of the Ashesi Design Lab, and Miss Zelia Abdul-Mumin Amonebaafe, the opportunity desk lead.but before they explained the process of the challenge they talked to the participants about what the Design Lab entails, its purposes as well as most of its functions. Then came the talk of Rockefeller's challenge, which was purposed for the creation and implementations of brilliant innovations to remedy the problems of poverty. The challenge would be split into two phases, one on 15th of October 2019 and the other on the 3rd of March, 2020. The first phase simply consists of signing up for the challenge in teams and awaiting the results of which teams would get picked. The second phase would consist of a mentorship program where teams with their innovative ideas would be supervised by a mentor who will aid the respective chosen teams in making sure that their ideas can come to fruition so as to implement them. After the brief overview of the challenge, Miss Rasheeda Mohammed Alhassan, the D-Lab event co-ordinator lead gave a vote of thanks to the potential challenge participants, and the meeting was adjourned. This and more exciting events are happening right here in the Design Lab, so be on the lookout because there's more to come.
