Did you know that plants can still grow in the absence of soil? The hydroponic project is pioneering the growth and production of micro-green plants in a liquid nutrient solution or inside moist inert materials, under controlled conditions. All of this is a part of the effort to build capacity for the climate change problem.
This project explores an alternative method of growing plants in the absence of soil. Plants are grown in a liquid nutrient solution or inside the moist inert materials, under controlled conditions. This method promises to be very efficient in the growth and production of micro-green plants. This is part of an effort to establish capabilities in the climate change problem area. This solution is in line with SDG Goal number 2; Zero Hunger.
Solution statement
Create a simple, affordable and efficient hydroponic system for growing plants.
Project Objectives
Build our knowledge and experience in hydroponics
Ensure that the system can grow crops that can be harvested and sold.
Create systems that look aesthetically appealing to attract more youth into agriculture.
To develop a hydroponics system that is easily adaptable to farmers
Create a manual and provide resources for Ashesi students and farmers in the community to take care of the system
