Ever wondered about how to ensure that your internship is as impactful to society as it is to you? EnergieRich, an organization which seeks to advance opportunities for communities to establish durable renewable energy and technology access. They are based in the United States with satellites in West African countries. In their first ever internship program in Ghana, they, through the Ashesi Design Lab summer mobile project forum, took in four Ashesi Students; Michael Dzine ’20, Portia Awuah ’20, Emmanuella Achama-Sarfo ’21 and Dokua Asiedu ’20, all of whom are engineering students.
The above-mentioned students decided to, over the summer, turn all that they learned in the classroom into practical solutions by working with EnergieRich to build solar powered chicken egg incubators to be used by poultry farmers in Ghana. Each of them believes that technology, if applied properly to targeted areas of the economy, can help improve the lives of individuals.
Over the summer, they engaged in activities such as, visits to poultry farms where they hoped to better understand the challenges facing the poultry industry, among others. They believe that, seeing these challenges up close will help them better understand the problem their dealing with and aid them design a much better solution.
A huge thanks to EnergieRich for the opportunity given these upcoming students and we hope this collaboration between the firm and the Ashesi Design Lab leads to a long-lasting relationship.
