Mr. Kwaku Andoh Yamoah explaining basic Machine Learning concepts to the participants

Welcome to the Ashesi D: Lab, where innovation and creativity meet. The Ashesi D: Lab is excited to share with you the success of the second Maker Sessions, which took place on Thursday 23rd February 2023. This event was designed to empower the Ashesi community with current knowledge and skills in design-making and prototyping. The team of experts in machine learning, Canva, and IOT came together to offer attendees an unforgettable experiential learning experience at different locations across the Ashesi University Campus. The Maker Session episode 2 was a unique opportunity for students and participants to explore the world of design and prototyping by continuing tutoring, learning and practising session from where they stopped in the previous episode. The program was carefully crafted to provide attendees with a hands-on experience in using cutting-edge tools, design resources and techniques to advance their design-making skills. This event was not just about learning; it was about gaining practical skills that could be used to make a real difference in the world.

One of the key highlights of the event was the machine learning session. Even though the attendance was not as massive and impressive as episode 1.0, the few attendees took the opportunity to learn how to use algorithms and models to analyze data and make predictions. The session was led by Kwaku Andoh Yamoah, an experienced machine learning engineer who shared his knowledge and expertise with the participants. It was a continuation of the past session and the participants were keen on reconnecting with the concepts. The attendees were excited to further learn how machine learning could be used in various fields, including healthcare, finance, and manufacturing. Mr. Kwaku Andoh Yamoah provided step-by-step instructions on how to apply algorithms and models to analyze data and make predictions, a step-up from the previous session. The attendees were impressed by the ease with which they could create grasp the concepts and connect them to design-making and prototyping in their various Ashesi D: Lab project teams.

The Canva session was equally impressive. Canva is a graphic design tool that makes it easy for anyone to create professional-looking designs. The session was led by Jonathan Adjei Boateng’ 26, a graphic design expert who provided practical tips and tricks on how to use Canva effectively. He took the participants through a riveting recap of the previous session. He started the main session by making real professional-level designs with Canva and allowing the attendees to do same. Attendees were amazed by the power and simplicity of the tool and were eager to start creating their own designs.

Mr. Kelvin Tichana ’23 explaining basic IOT concepts to participants

The IOT session was also a huge success. Attendees learned how to use IOT devices to monitor and control various aspects of the environment. The session was led by Kelvin Tichana ’23, an IOT expert who provided practical examples of how IOT devices could be used in various fields, including agriculture, energy, and transportation.

Overall, the Maker Sessions were a huge success. The program provided attendees with a unique opportunity to learn from experts in the various fields of IOT, Machine Learning, and Canva and gain practical skills that could be used to make a real difference in the world. We are excited to see the impact that this event will have on the Ashesi community and beyond. We look forward to hosting more Maker Sessions in the future and continuing to empower people with the latest knowledge and skills in design-making and prototyping.
