For a while now, the D: Lab has observed the growing importance and significance of social media in the world and how it mainly plays a critical role in shaping the brands of individuals and organisations in the 21st Century. Thus, in a bid to help the Ashesi community stay up to date on how to build up their brands, the D: Lab decided to organise a webinar tag lined "Social Media for Good" where two leading Ghanaian experts on social media, namely Ameyaw Debrah, famous Ghanaian blogger and a freelance journalist and Edward Asare, digital marketer at United Bank of Africa (UBA) Ghana were to talk about the subject matter at hand and hold dialogue on it.
This was held on Wednesday, the 29th of September, 2021, via Zoom. Despite the initial stages of "Ashesi stress" starting to set in within the student body, 30 individuals managed to make it to the webinar. Despite the relatively low turnout, it was quite an interactive session with the panellists, for instance, demonstrating their in-depth knowledge about social media and branding space by making some striking points about monetization of the space. No doubt, the talk from the two panellists was quite insightful because what followed was an influx of questions from the audience, which was answered with verve by the panelists.
Unfortunately, the webinar had to wind down as with all good things. At the end of the webinar, however, reactions captured indicated that the participants were glad they had attended, with some stating that they had learnt quite a lot about the social media arena and aspects like how to monetize it effectively, build a brand with the various mediums and how to handle the pressure associated with the work.
